1. Attack the job with a willingness to "let go". Do no keep items simply because you have had them for an extended period of time. This happens often with things passed down from a parent or family member. Getting rid of the item does not eliminate the memory of those you love.
2. Remove all items from the area. For example, if you are organizing a closet, empty it completely before sorting through your things.
3. Never keep anything that isn't useful or enjoyable to you. If you received a gift from a loved one, but you do not use or enjoy the gift, you MUST get rid of it.
4. Plan to organize monthly. Do not allow the clutter to build up to an unsurmountable level.
5. Limit your use of storage bins. Many things in storage are not used. Do not store, either throw out, or give away.
